Ethan St Catherine and Chaydine Do Oma in year 10 successfully won the Bucks STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Challenge Day in July 2015 and went on to represent Bucks in the STEM Challenge Southern final, held on 13th January 2016 at Kings College London. The competition saw them compete against 13 other schools in Southern England.
The task was to build and program a Lego Mindstorms Robot to do various activities such as follow a black line on the floor or move and stop controlled by the sound of a clap. Each team then had to present to the judges, students and teachers: what they produced; explain how they achieved success and how they could improve if given more time. They were then scored on their ability to work as a team, on the outcome of what the robot could do, and their presenting skills. After three and a half hours of building, programming, testing and presenting the awards were announced and Ethan and Chaydine won first prize! They were particularly praised on the outcome of what they got the robot to do, outstanding planning skills, and an entertaining presentation. All three characteristics made team Buckinghamshire stand out from the other schools.
Congratulations boys on a well-deserved win. Mr Sewell, Leader for Product Design
