Some of our Year 11 students attended an ‘Investigating Options’ Day at Oxford University. They attended a presentation about Oxford which introduced the students to the city, the university and student life. This was followed by attendance at some sample lectures which included Science, Philosophy and Public Policy and where one of the studies was about the design of an invisible cloak!
After lunch the students attended a workshop investigating course options which will hopefully inspire and help them with their choices for the future. Last was a tour of the College.
From the feedback gained, 80% of the students said that going to Oxbridge inspires them a lot and 60% have said that they might consider applying.
When asked ‘what steps might you take now to move you towards your goals’, the students responded as follows:
“Research the requirements for University Courses”
“Go online on student rooms to get student opinions of University”
“Read more into my preferred subjects”
“Revise hard!”
“Gain some useful work experience in the area I am considering applying for.”
